Job Overview
The Consultant, M365 Architect is responsible for supporting enterprise-level architectural design, planning, and implementation across the IRS Microsoft 365 environment. This position contributes to PWS Task 7 by ensuring alignment between technical solutions, platform architecture standards, governance frameworks, and operational requirements. The Consultant provides design expertise across Power Platform environments, SharePoint Online structures, Teams and Exchange Online configurations, OneDrive and tenant services, and integrations with Azure AD/Entra ID. This role works closely with the Lead Engineer to maintain cohesive architecture, high-quality solution designs, and secure, scalable cloud configurations.
This role is contingent upon contract award, and will be a full-time position with work performed remotely. This position requires the ability obtain and maintain Tier II Moderate Background Investigation (MBI).

What You'll Do
1. M365 Architecture Design & Planning
- Assist in the design of enterprise-level configurations for SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, Exchange Online, and related Microsoft 365 services.
- Support development of architectural standards for Power Platform environments, pipelines, Dataverse, connectors, and APIs.
- Participate in developing technical strategies for governance, data retention, compliance, and environment management.
- Support the Lead Engineer in evaluating and recommending architectural improvements.
- Assist with integration of M365 workloads into Azure AD/Entra ID, including identity flows, access models, and application authentication.
- Support configuration and optimization of tenant services including backup, lifecycle, and capacity planning.
- Assist in configuring and optimizing OneDrive tenant-level settings and synchronization features.
- Support technical integration efforts with AvePoint Online Services and other enterprise tools.
- Assist with resolving Priority 1–4 IRWorks incident and task tickets related to architecture or configuration issues.
- Support monitoring of performance, limitations, and usage trends within Power Platform, SharePoint, and other M365 workloads.
- Support technical evaluation of new M365 features and capabilities for enterprise applicability.
- Develop and maintain architectural diagrams, configuration documentation, and design standards.
- Assist in creating governance materials including operating procedures, standards, and technical guidance.
- Ensure all documentation meets IRS Section 508 accessibility requirements and PMO formatting standards.
- Support traceability and alignment of architectural decisions with the PWS and IRS governance baselines.
- Provide technical inputs for bi-weekly status reports covering architecture deliverables, risks, and accomplishments.
- Participate in PMO technical meetings, risk discussions, and architecture reviews.
- Collaborate with developers, technical consultants, QA analysts, and security specialists to ensure solution consistency.
- Support development of architecture-related portions of Transition-In documentation including plans, diagrams, and governance artifacts.
- Contribute to Transition-Out materials including design inventories, SOPs, knowledge transfer content, and architecture summaries.
- 7+ years experience in IT systems architecture, cloud engineering, or enterprise application design.
- 4+ years experience supporting Microsoft 365 services including SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, or Exchange Online.
- Experience designing or maintaining Power Platform environments, Dataverse structures, and enterprise pipelines.
- Experience supporting Azure AD/Entra ID identity-based integrations.
- Strong understanding of M365 capabilities, architecture, and configuration patterns.
- Experience with SharePoint Online architecture, site collections, and content organization.
- Experience with Teams and Exchange Online configuration and service integration.
- Experience analyzing performance metrics and optimizing M365 workloads.
- Familiarity with PowerShell, Microsoft Graph API, and modern authentication patterns.
- Understanding of M365 security, compliance, connectors, and governance.
- Bachelor’s degree required in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related technical field.
- Equivalent experience may be considered where appropriate.
